Nancy Wilson (1937 - 2018)

Nancy Wilson’s debut single, “Guess Who I Saw Today” launched a singing career that would span five decades and earn her three Grammy Awards across jazz, R&B, and pop. Recording more than 70 albums, Wilson’s hits include “(You Don’t Know) How Glad I Am”, “Face It Girl”, “R.S.V.P”, and “Turned to Blue”. Going on to numerous film and television appearances, she was one of the only black women to have her own Emmy-winning TV series – with “The Nancy Wilson Show” running between 1967 – 1968.

Wilson was also an avid philanthropist and civil rights advocate. Participating in famous protests such as the Selma to Montgomery march in 1965, Wilson received an award from the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change in 1993. Wilson was later inducted into the International Civil Rights Walk of Fame at the MLK National Historic Site, stating that “this award mean more to me than anything else I have ever received”.
